Bobcat growl12/6/2023 Almost like a deer does when he thinks he knows soemthing is not right, and stomps his foot. The cat I took came up silent as a ghost, and only growlled after he stopped and looked at me, to see if I would move. Very interesting to hear the experiences of others. I've used bobcat in heat sounds to successfully call bobcats but not heard any vocal response. I've called both with prey sounds only and in those cases they did't make a sound though they came in. I've had lynx and cougars vocalize to me when coming in to a vocalization call. It seemed like the cat growled because I came and took the decoy and call away from him. Terrible footing in the slash in snow, or I would have circled to check for tracks with a flashlight. Light was going fast and the sound came from a loose debris pile of logs and brush about 40 feet beyond the call. Two knowledgeable people have told that the sound I described sounds more like cougar than bobcat. Whatever it was it started with a sound like a hoot, almost bird or owl like, and smoothly shifted into an unmistakeable cat snarl and growl. I'd been on stand almost an hour in a super rough and ragged clearcut in snow on the lower slope of a high mountain. I had a cat growl at me in the dusk last year when I went to pick up my M1 and decoy. I've had cats vocalize in response to cat vocals, but not to prey sounds, but my experience is limited. What sound were any of you using when the bobcat growled at a calling stand? It seems odd to me that a cat would growl if it was after prey, but would come in silent. Interesting question and interesting answers. Has anyone everhad a bobcat come up and growl at them while calling?
